Picture 1: Truro Cathedral JPEG
This set of images was taken inside Truro Cathedral. This image clearly represents a challenge for the build-in camera computer as the camera has to compensate for the mixed lighting sources.
Direct comparison of raw and JPEG images shows that the raw image appears to be slightly lighter and to have a slightly better detail in the shadow area.
Applying some adjustments to the raw file, it’s possible to achieve quite a different image altogether – there is a better balance between the light and shadow areas and a greater detail throughout the image. The highlights (the light coming in through the window) lack detail slightly but I prefer the atmosphere and the quality of the light/ image that this effect brings about: it fills the church roof with beautiful radiant light.
